Portrait Project

For this project, I used a wooden pencil, eraser, paper, ruler, and a picture to go by. I used scumbling to shade in the piece. To draw this, I used a grid so I could make sure my proportions were correct. Then I drew in details and shaded it in. Unity is shown in my work by how the surface quality looks. The lights and darks create contrast. In the future, I would try to make the values blend together more.

Whistle

I created my whistle by making two pinch pots and blending them together, resulting in the shell part of my turtle. I attached the legs, head and tail. Then I added the actual whistle part in, which was done by carving out part of the underbelly. I added a texture, and after it was fired, I glazed it. I used unity in this piece by making the shell the dominant part of the turtle. I also used color to make it stand out more. In this project I learned that making a whistle takes a lot of patience, because if you take too much clay out, your whistle could become silent.

Travel Poster

For my travel poster, I used tempera paint and a paintbrush. I created it by first researching my country and making a list of important sights to see. I then came up with the idea to use the flag as an outline to help me set it up. I used grouping to incorporate the colors of the flag in as well. Contrast is also presented in this piece. It makes everything stand out so much more.  In this lesson I learned that you have to be careful where your paint goes, because it can result in havigg to paint something over again.

City Project

I created my City project by using two point perspective. I used a ruler, a pencil, and crayons and colored pencils. Two point perspecive is done by first creating a horizon line and then defining the vanishing points. Then you add in buildings by drawing a vertical line and connecting it to the vanishing point. You finish it off by cutting both sides with vertical lines. This piece uses approximate symmetry because it is uneven, yet it is still balanced. I also used contrast to make everything stand out. In this lesson, I learned that I really have to watch how to draw everything since it is in perspective.

Value project

I created this artwork by placing my 5 objects on a piece of paper positioned in front of a lamp which provided light to make shadows. I drew each object in perspective of how I saw it from my seat. After drawing the shape, I used the scumbling technique to shade it. For this project, I used paper, pencils, a tube of chapstick, an EOS chapstick, a pearl earring, a push pin, and a pad of sticky notes. Grouping is incorporated in this because of how the objects are layed out  on the page. In this lesson, I learned that in order to shade darkly, you actually have to press pretty hard on your pencil. I also learned that you have to keep looking up to get all the details in. 

Negative space Still life Project

I created this artwork by using my view finder to not only find something to draw, but to also block out what wasn't needed. While I was drawing the negative space, I made sure to look up as much as I was looking down. After I drew the negative space, I outlined it with sharpie and created my pattern to go inside of it. For this project, I used the still life, a pencil, a sharpie, an eraser, markers, and colored pencils. This piece of artwork uses a half drop pattern in the negative. It is also alternating between colors and shapes. By repeating the rectangles and the colors, I used repitition. In this lesson, I learned that in order to make your drawing accurate, it is best to keep your eyes on what you are drawing as much as possible.

Contour shoe drawing

I created this artwork by putting a shoe on the table and drawing it in perpective. I drew one part at a time so I wouldn't get confused on which strap goes where. I measured the length and width of the shoe by using my pencil and eyeing it. I used a pencil, an eraser, my Chaco, and a lot of perserverance. I think my drawing definetely has contrast because of the smooth sides and the straight edges of the straps. It is also emphasized because it is isolated. In this lesson, I learned that even if I am frustrated, I have to keep going in order to learn how to fix what I am doing wrong. 

6 principles composition- Movement anf Rhythm

I created this piece of artwork by printing out a stencil-like image and tracing it. I then used that stencil to get the upper bodies of the other 3 dancers. After that, I drew the rest of the dancers and colored everything in with colored pencils and crayons. I pressed down hard when using the crayons so it would look smooth, whereas when I used the colored pencils, I just lightly shaded. This piece of art has actual movement since the image changes over time. It also has recorded action, a moment in time. In each of the four frames, it is an image of the dancer in midair. I believe this work also has compositional movement and regular rhythm in it because it is very easy to predict what will happen next and as you do, your eyes flow across the page. In this lesson, I learned that patterns can be simple, but also very complex. I also learned that by adding variety, you are also adding interest.
